熊野では、古来から神事やお祝いの席でさんま寿司を食べる風習があります。日本で一番古い書物の日本書紀にもあることから、さんま寿司発祥の地と言われています。また、めはり寿司は、ご飯を高菜の葉の漬物で包んだもので、高菜の漬物は添加物・保存料は塩以外は使っておらず、健康的で、おにぎり感覚で手軽に食べることができます。
