Route features
The massive stone slabs that pave the stone paths here have protected the roads from the heavy rains of Owase for many years. The pass connects to hiking trails up to the scenic summits of Mount Tengura and Mount Binshi, so do consider making a detour to enjoy some breathtaking scenery if you have spare energy and time left.
Route highlights
Yonaki Jizo Statue
This Jizo statue was built for people to pray for safe travels, and is also believed to work wonders to soothe the crying of children at night.
Stone Bridge and Stone Path
Stretched over a stream, this stone bridge is formed by a single stone slab. This is also a good spot to take photos of the stone path.
Haiku Monument of Karyoen Toitsu
This is a monument engraved with a haiku which was written by the late Edo period poet Karyoen Toitsu. The haiku talks about the poet admiring the beauty of the flowers at night while listening to the sound of the mountain springs.
Magose Park Observation Deck
This park is filled with blooming cherry blossoms and rhododendrons in the spring to the summer, and the flowers of the Japanese clover also bloom here in fall. There is a pavilion which provides a beautiful view as well.
